Is it grammatically incorrect to follow the abbreviations ie and eg with etc? Are there any words in english other than friend where the spelling ie corresponds to the short e sound /ɛ/? When programming i use ie and eg it's informal, probably technically wrong, but it's readable, and unlikely to propagate some badly closed.
